Automotive- BMW Future ‘Superbrain’ EV Neue Klasse X
With EV’s taking form across the globe the latest from BMW is no surprise a bill of emerging tech and trends. From a promised 300km charge in ten minutes to the super brain which entails vehicle autonomy such as avoiding accidents. The materials technology is also promising with a plant based, petrolium free material for the interior called ‘Verdana’. The most interesting part for me was their Hypersonx wheel which allows the driver to create custom sounds for their car, not just bringing customisation but how your car interacts with the world via sound! Bring on a future of not just vrooms and pops but ziiiiiip, zrracc and other noises that sound great but not in writing…

Packaging- Non Compostable Take-Away Cups banned in Western Australia

Part of Western Australia’s second stage of their Plan for Plastics the Government is working close with retailers and consumers to support the change to help move away from single use plastics and lids. This is fantastic news, I’m a IV drip kinda person but know that out and about you don’t always have a keep cup handy so having a certified compostable (In Australia) take away cup is the next best thing.

Automotive- New Peugeot E-5008 Promises Size and Space

This large family car from Peugeot is one of the first EV’s to focus on space and transportation of up to seven passengers. There are hybrids with the ability to carry more passengers but it is good to see a larger family car come out in the EV space as for some its simply not enough space in a 5 seater.

Sustainability- Research Improves Recyclability, Removing Challenge of Contamination

Leading research form University of New South Wales (UNSW) focused on PET has not only improved the recycling times for the material but also removed other traditional challenges. Contamination and mixed waste has made it difficult to recycle PET on mass due to cleaning and sorting. The new research enables the separation of dyes so clear PET can be produced from the waste.

Sustainable Packaging- Subway Sends Plastic Packing

This is a wonderful piece of news but really a no brainer for Subway to move away from their use of plastic catering trays. This fibre-based catering platter not only provides a more sustainable alternative to plastics but also reduce handling and logistics costs due to flat pack, efficient storage and transportation. That’s a win for environment and business.
