Product Design- COP28 Prototypes of Humanity Shortlist Displayed in Dubai

Devices to detect breast cancer, improve personal safety, remove distractions in shared environments, sustainable sanitary pads and better casts for hip dysplasia in infants. Check out six shortlisted projects out of 100 that were display in November.

Innovation/Tech- JAXA Moon Rover Design Collaboration with Japanese Toymaker Tomy

Tomy has collaborated on designs for a new moon rover that hitched a ride to the on the space-X falcon 9 rocket in December 2023 which successfully landed on the moon in January. Inspired by the transformers, beyblades and zoids of recent past the Sora-Q (Sky-Sphere in Japanese) will be a remotely instructed to move away from the lander and turn back to face the lander and transmit images back to Earth.

Sustainability/Tech- Google Backs Environment Defence Fund Methane Tracking Satellite

Tech titan google will be backing Environment Defence Fund who are launching a satellite this year which is the first of its kind that live monitors methane emissions globally from hotspots such as oil fields.

Packaging Design- PIDA Australian Students Receive Four Major Awards

The Worldstar Student Awards saw a group of Packaging, Innovation and Design Australasia (PIDA) students take home 4 major awards. Great to see local students push the boundaries of packaging design and innovation. Biopac (Overall Gold in Sustainability) is a great example of how packaging can adopt new materials to reduce food waste.

Packaging Sustainability- Paper Based Take Away Cups Finally get Recaptured and Recycled

Rolling out across 7-Eleven stores, shopping centers and cafes, consumers will now be able to drop off their used paper take away cups in the knowledge they will be properly recycled. Regular paper cups are not currently being recaptured and recycled. This new venture with Simply cups will provide a closed loop lifecycle for paper cups, repurposing collected waste into construction products such as asphalt and lightweight concrete.
